Etymology

From Latin anagnōstes (“slave trained to read aloud”), from Koine Greek ἀναγνώστης (anagnṓstēs, “reader, slave trained to read”), after Ancient Greek ἀναγιγνώσκειν (anagignṓskein, “to read”).
