Etymology

A romanization of the sixteenth letter of the Semitic abjads, including Hebrew ע (ʿayin), Phoenician 𐤏 (ʿayin), Aramaic 𐡏 (ʿē), and Classical Syriac ܥ (ʿē), Arabic ع (ʕayn) (where it is sixteenth in abjadi order only).
