From French bonduc, from Arabic بُنْدُق (bunduq, “hazelnut, pebble, bullet”), from Middle Persian 𐭯𐭭𐭣𐭪 (pondik, “hazelnut”), from Ancient Greek Ποντικόν κάρυον (Pontikón káruon, “Pontic nut”). Doublet of bundook.
