From Latin cadmia, ultimately from Ancient Greek Καδμεία (Kadmeía), from Κάδμος (Kádmos, “Cadmus”) + -εια (-eia, “-ia: forming related substances”). Doublet of calamine, calaminaris, and lapis calaminaris.
