Borrowed from Hindi चादर (cādar) / Urdu چادَر (cādar), from Classical Persian چَادُر (čādur) or چَادَر (čādar), from Sanskrit छत्त्र (chattra). Doublet of chatra and chatta. Spelling possibly influenced by modern Iranian Persian چادُر (čâdor) or another language.
