Etymology

From Ancient Greek ὑδροῦς (hudroûs), from the combining form of ὕδωρ (húdōr, “water”) + -οῦς (-oûs, “-ous, -ful”). Equivalent to hydro- + -ous. Doublet of Otranto and Hydruntum.
