From Late Latin polypodium, from Ancient Greek πολυπόδιον (polupódion), from πολυ- (polu-, “poly-, many”) + πούς (poús, “-pod, foot”) + -ιον (-ion, “-ium”). Later reinforced by the translingual scientific use of Polypodium.
