From French retroussé, past participle of retrousser (“to hitch up, hike up”), from re- (from Latin re- (“back, backwards; again”), from Proto-Italic *wre (“again”), possibly from Proto-Indo-European *wert- (“to turn”) or *ure- (“back”)) + trousser (“to fold up, hitch up”).
