Etymology

From Spanish tomín, from Andalusian Arabic ثُمْن (ṯúmn), from Arabic ثُمْن (ṯumn, “one-eighth”), from the root ن (n) م (m) ث (ṯ-m-n). Originally used in reference to it forming one-eighth of a castellano.
